Single Daughter Blues...
Last Sunday, my sister asked me to come back to Seremban (our parents' place). She had sms'ed me earlier of her intentions to ask me and my elder brother to come back (there are only 3 of us siblings). There would be a rombongan merisik with cincin tanya coming that day.
My sister is 4 years my senior and still single (hopefully not for much longer..) Imagine, I have already 7 kids and she has none and she is only getting married soon.
I'm very happy for her that I wanted so much to see this wedding to take place immediately. It is not the first time that someone had proposed to her except that my father is a little bit choosy and pessimistic. Remember the saying, "Optimists invented the airplane, pessimists invented the parachute." ? My father is very much like that. He is the "what-if" guy. What if you fail... What if the car breaks down... What if they tricked you... What if he's no good... What if... What if... You see, this is his only daughter, and for sure he wants only the best for his princess.
But my sister is already 47 and to me this is the best thing that can happen to her now. Although her husband-to-be is a single father of 4 (his wife passed away a few years ago), Siti Nurhaliza too will be marrying a single father of 4 !!
They have already set the date : November 26th 2006 and for the first time in her life, my sister is able to wear a ring on her finger signifying that she's taken.. When the men's entourage was discussing the dates and dowry and others, my father didn't say much... I think he's having the blues.. single-daughter blues...
And I think I'm going to have that blues too come like 15 or 20 years from now because... I, too, have a single daughter...
